Controls sound during a performance. Operates a computer to execute sound cues in the control booth during a performance. Also conducts sound checks, maintenance on instruments, basic troubleshooting. Volunteer position.

Time commitment: beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.

Backstage Crew (or “running crew”)
Work behind the scenes during performances, e.g., moving set pieces, preparing food props, assisting actors with wardrobe, and more. Volunteer position.

Time commitment: beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.
Qualifications: may need to lift set pieces
Experience: no experience required

Set Construction Crew
Help build the set. You assist the designer in working with hand- and power-tools to construct set pieces and platforms, paint, and more. Volunteer position.
Reports to: the technical director
Time commitment: varies, with hours arranged according to the set designer’s schedule, usually weekday evenings and weekends for 2-3 weeks before opening.

Help hang and focus the stage lights above the arena. You work with lighting instruments and accessories, climb ladders, and more. Volunteer position.
Reports to: the lighting designer
Time commitment: light hang (usually 2 weeks before opening); some weekday evenings and weekends for two weeks before opening depending on the light designer’s schedule; strike after the final performance
