lightsSTAGE MANAGER
Works with the director and theatre management in coordinating all aspects of the production, from auditions through rehearsals and tech; supervises the production from opening night through all performances to strike.
Reports to:  the director
Time commitment:  total

SCENIC DESIGNER
Works with the director in designing the show and with the technical director in overseeing its build.
Reports to: the director
Time commitment:  varies
Experience: required;  prefer experience in designing for the round

LIGHTING DESIGNER
Works with the director in designing the lighting; helps supervise light board operator; supervises crew to hang, focus, and strike of the show.
Reports to:  the director
Time commitment:  varies
Equipment/Facilities:  ETC Element lighting control board

COSTUME DESIGNER
Works with the director to design the costume plot and responsible for its build: supervises crew in the construction and maintenance of costumes and accessories.
Reports to:  the director
Time commitment:  varies
Equipment/Facilities:  well-equipped costume shop; laundry facilities; large costume inventory
Experience:  required

 

PROP DESIGNER
Works with the director and set designer in developing prop lists for the show and responsible for the procurement and construction (if any) of all props (at TRP, “props” generally doesn’t include furniture but often includes set dressing). Helps supervise backstage crew in running props and prop maintenance during the run.

SOUND DESIGNER
Works with the director in selecting music, effects, and other sound. Responsible for building all cues; helps supervise the sound board operator.

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER
Assists the stage manager during rehearsals; usually works backstage during performances and/or supervises the backstage crew.
Reports to:  the stage manager
Time commitment:  based on show needs, may begin 4-5 weeks prior to opening. Beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.
Experience:  no experience required

BACKSTAGE CREW (also known as “running crew”)
Work behind the scenes during performances, e.g., moving set pieces, preparing food props, assisting actors with wardrobe, and more.
Reports to:  the assistant stage manager
Time commitment:  beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.
Qualifications:  may need to lift set pieces
Experience:  no experience required

LIGHT BOARD OPERATOR
Controls stage lighting during a performance. Operates a computer to execute lighting cues in the control booth during a performance. Also conducts dimmer checks, maintenance on instruments, basic troubleshooting.
Reports to:  the stage manager
Time commitment:  beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.
Qualifications:  may need to climb ladders
Equipment:  ETC Element lighting control board
Experience:  preferred but not required

 

SOUND BOARD OPERATOR
Controls music, effects, and other sound during a performance. Operates a computer to execute sound cues in the control booth during a performance. Also conducts sound checks, basic troubleshooting.
Reports to:  the stage manager
Time commitment:  beginning with tech weekend, you’ll need to attend every rehearsal and then every performance.
Equipment:  QLab Pro Bundle v3; manual patch bay
Experience:  preferred but not required

 

SET CONSTRUCTION CREW
Help build the set. You assist the designer in working with hand- and power-tools to construct set pieces and platforms, paint, and more.
Reports to:  the technical director
Time commitment:  varies, with hours arranged according to the set designer’s schedule, usually weekday evenings and weekends for 2-3 weeks before opening.
Experience:  preferred but not required

 

LIGHTING CREW
Help hang and focus the stage lights above the arena. You work with lighting instruments and accessories, climb ladders, and more.
Reports to:  the lighting designer
Time commitment:  light hang (usually 2 weeks before opening); some weekday evenings and weekends for two weeks before opening depending on the light designer’s schedule; strike after the final performance
Experience:  preferred but not required

 

COSTUME CREW
Help build costumes. You assist the designer in building costumes and working with costume accessories for cast members, including stitching, machine-sewing, ironing, wardrobe maintenance, and more.
Reports to:  the costume designer
Time commitment:  varies, with hours arranged according to the costume designer’s schedule, usually weekday evenings and weekends for 2-3 weeks before opening.
Experience:  preferred but not required

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
